Algorithmic Robustness for Learning via $(\epsilon, \gamma, \tau)$-Good Similarity Functions

چکیده
The importance of metrics in machine learning has attracted a growing interest for distance and similarity learning, and especially the Mahalanobis distance. However, it is worth noting that this research field lacks theoretical guarantees that can be expected on the generalization capacity of the classifier associated to a learned metric. The theoretical framework of ( , γ, τ)-good similarity functions (Balcan et al., 2008) has been one of the first attempts to draw a link between the properties of a similarity function and those of a linear classifier making use of it. In this paper, we extend this theory to a method where the metric and the separator are jointly learned in a semi-supervised way, setting that has not been explored before. We furthermore provide a generalization bound for the associated classifier based on the algorithmic robustness framework. The behavior of our method is illustrated via some experimental results.

Mechanistic differences in the transcriptional activation of p53 by 14-3-3 isoforms
p53 maintains genome integrity by initiating the transcription of genes involved in cell-cycle arrest, senescence, apoptosis and DNA repair. The activity of p53 is regulated by both post-translational modifications and protein-protein interactions. p53 that has been phosphorylated at S366, S378 and T387 binds 14-3-3 proteins in vitro. Here, we show that these sites are potential 14-3-3 binding ...

متن کاملP 97: Neurodegeneration Induced by Tau protein
Tau is one of several types of microtubule-associated proteins (MAPs), responsible for the assembly and stability of microtubule networks that is present only in neurons and predominantly localized in axons which its functions are tightly regulated by phosphorylation. Via as yet unknown mechanisms, tau becomes hyperphosphorylated and accompanies with neuronal degeneration, loss of synapses...
